Robert Townsend Obituary

TOWNSEND, Robert Blaine - Passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Belleville General Hospital on Thursday, November 10, 2011. Predeceased by his beloved wife Madeline. Robert was blessed with seven children, Marilyn Farthing (Arthur), Edward (Loreane), Patricia Convery (David), Jim (Linda Greene), Brian (Evelyn), Brenda Jones (Reg) and Debbie Deveau (Gene Jochen). Robert was proud of all of his 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Throughout his 85 years of vibrant life, Robert was an accomplished sailor, published author, marine historian, community volunteer and extraordinary fundraiser. Visitation will be held at PINE HILLS VISITATION CENTRE, 625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough (416-267-8229), on Monday, November 14, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A celebration of Robert's life will take place in the chapel on Tuesday, November 15th at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at Pine Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to CNIB (seeing eye dog program) or Movember, Canada. www.mobro.co/BrianDTownsend

Our sympathy goes out to the whole family. I am honoured to have had Bob as my cousin. He was larger than life, and a terrific person. His love of his family was an inspiration, and I'm grateful to have had a chance to get to know him a bit better in recent years. He will be missed but never forgotten!
