ROBERT GUNTHER SHELLEY January 26, 1925 - April 19, 2013 Bob died in his 89th year at Sunnybrook Hospital after a brief, final illness, surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his brothers Gerald and Michael, and is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Jessica (Taylor) and by his children, Gardiner (Kimberly) and Brian (Kit) and his grandchildren, Jenna, Lauren, John, Alexandra, Liza and Jacqueline. In his early career he was employed as a design engineer on the Avro Jetliner, the CF100 fighter and the Orenda engine. He obtained his pilot's aviation licence in 1947. In 1960 he established R.G. Shelley Ltd., now known as Shelley Automation, a distributor of high tech automation equipment. He was a devoted family man with many interests, including plant culture, photography, big band music, languages, travel and astrophysics, for which he established a scholarship at the University of Toronto. He and Jess met at Georgian Bay as teenagers and valued their 71 summers there to the present day. A private family service and cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at St. John's York Mills Anglican Church, 19 Don Ridge Drive, Toronto, on Tuesday, April 30th, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory to the Schulich Heart Centre, Sunnybrook Hospital, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto M4N 3M5 would be appreciated.
