SAMUEL HARRY MELTZER 1918 to 2012 WWII Veteran Sam passed away on November 16, 2012. Survived by his loving wife, Maren. Cherised father of Susan, Ruth, Risa, Ross and Mark, step-sons - John and Chris. Proud grandfather of Jason, Jeremy, Marli, Jesse, Shane, Abby, Liam, Ashton, Aaron and Lee-Elle. Sam was born in London, England and served with the British 8th Army in Dunkirk, Middle East and Africa, Sicily and D-Day at Normandy. He immigrated to Canada in 1952. A member of the Royal Canadian and British Legions, he served as Sergeant-at-Arms for the Dunkirk Vets, his branch and zone. He was also the Master of the Masonic Perfection Lodge in 1977. His happiest times were spent with family and listening to jazz. He loved to dance and Dixieland music. The musicians in the Toronto jazz community brought so much joy and honour to him. Friends will be received at the YORK VISITATION CHAPEL & RECEPTION CENTRE, 160 Beecroft Road (north of Sheppard Ave., 1st street west of Yonge St.), Toronto, 416-221-3404, on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 for a graveside service. Memorial donations may be made to the Sunnybrook Foundation.
