SIDNEY ARTHUR (ART) ARNOLD Passed away on March 18, 2011 at the age of 89 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. Beloved husband of Mary (nee Pezzani) for 62 years. Cherished father and father-in-law of Ted and Jackie of Etobicoke. Loving grandpa to Sydney, Madeline and Emily. Predeceased by his father Sidney Arnold, his mother Rhoda Arnold (nee Quested), his sister Gladys Chapman and her husband Charlie Chapman. Born and raised in the Ellesmere and Kennedy area of Scarborough, Art proudly served in the RCAF and was a civil servant for many years, including a long stint with Canadian Immigration. A great husband, father, brother and grandpa, Art had many hobbies and interests in his life. As a huge fan of big band and Dixieland jazz music, Art loved to dance and for many years was an active member of the Classic Jazz Society of Toronto. It was at the Columbus Dance Hall in downtown Toronto where he met Mary. Also, he was an avid gardener, card player, golfer, backyard rink maker and host of many Canada Day barbecues. Art was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Naval Club of Toronto where in his retirement he used to visit once a week to enjoy a beer and have a few laughs. A gentle man who had many friends, Art enjoyed a good joke and could always be found with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye . Friends and family may gather at Lynett Funeral Home, 3299 Dundas St. West (1 block east of Runnymede Rd.), on Friday, March 25th from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A service to follow at 8:00 p.m. Donations in memory of Art may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
