STANLEY KWAN Obituary

STANLEY SHIH-KUANG KWAN, MBE Passed away peacefully at Scarborough Grace Hospital on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at the age of 86. Born in 1925 in Hong Kong to a traditional Chinese banking family, Stanley's life mirrored the modern history of Hong Kong. He was a survivor of the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong, wartime interpreter in Mainland China for US troops, banker and architect of the influential Hang Seng Index. Stanley immigrated to Canada in 1984 and is the author of The Dragon and the Crown: Hong Kong Memoirs. He was predeceased by his wife Wing Kin and survived by his daughters Yvonne (Samuel) Zheng and Elaine (Edmund) Chung and granddaughters Michelle, Catherine and Chloe. Friends will be received at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 7th at R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street, North York, ON. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation, 60 Scottfield Drive, Scarborough, ON M1S 5T7.
