Theodore Grunau Obituary

GRUNAU, Theodore (Ted) - Ted passed away suddenly as a result of cancer at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, on Wednesday, December 31, 2008. Ted was the beloved father of Julia and Paul Grunau; the very proud and much loved grandfather to Siena and Mason Smith; cherished brother to Victor (predeceased), Alice, Eleanor, Kaye, Harold, Robert and Terry; ex-husband to the late Ruth Grunau of Saltspring Island; and a very dear and treasured friend to wife Anita. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by many family and friends. A memorial celebration of Ted's life will be held at a future date. If desired, donations may be made in Ted's name to the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.turnerporter.ca/Yorke.html

Ted was a classmate of mine at UofT Engineering Physics class of 1956. His cheerful enthusiasm and tremendous technical curiosity had us working on all sorts of projects such as building a TV and trying to develop a video tape recorder before they were commercially available. It is not surprising that he went on to great success. He will be sorely missed at our annual class reunion.

As the Realtor and a friend of Ted for many years, I was deeply shocked and saddened by his sudden passing away. Ted was such a gentle and giving soul whose joy of life sparkled in his eyes. He would always make you feel like the most important person, freely giving you a warm hug at every appropriate opportunity. I will never forget his exuberance and excitement over each new condo, especially the last one he was so happy about. We have lost a very special person who will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Anita and family.

Ted was my neighbour and friend. He was liked by everyone and was always there to lend an ear or give a hug when needed. His friends in our complex will miss him, his wonderful smile and positive attitude. We will treasure the joy and warmth he brought to all of us....always
