TIMOTHY ALEXANDER GREW It is with immense sorrow that we announce the death of the Reverend Tim Grew on Sunday, January 15, 2012, from complications related to pancreatic cancer. Born in Saskatchewan in 1939, Tim was raised in Ottawa and King City. He received his Bachelor of Arts and Licenciate of Theology from King's College in Halifax and his teaching degree from Dalhousie University. Tim's strong belief in the right of each individual to be treated fairly and with respect led him to work in the field of social justice, helping people to rely on their own initiatives rather than on charity. Inspired by courses taken at the Coady Institute in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, in his first parish, he participated in a community development programme for two years in Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela, under the direction of the Anglican Church of Canada. He spent 13 years in Manitoba as a teacher and guidance counsellor in First Nations communities as well as in Thomson and for two years, as executive assistant to the Minister of Northern Affairs in the NDP government of Howard Pawley. Returning to Ontario with his family in 1984, he was appointed to the parish of the Church of St. Stephen's, Downsview and in 1995, he moved to Belleville and was appointed to the three-point parish of Carrying Place, Wellington and Ameliasburg in Prince Edward County. Since his retirement in 2002, Tim continued to take an active role in contributing to his community, including serving on the board of the Community Advocacy and Legal Clinic, participating in the Life of Christ Church, working on the executive Board of the NDP riding and membership in the Kiwanis Club of Belleville. Tim also spent the last 10 years continuously studying adult education methodologies and their application. Tim is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Clarke), children, Claire and Jason, son-in-law, Brad Williams, daughter-in-law, Karen (Kilcullen), grandsons, Quinn, Kevin and Noah and sister, Suzanne (Grew Ellis). Arrangements entrusted to the BURKE FUNERAL HOME, 150 Church St., Belleville (613-968-6968). Visitation on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Christ Church Anglican (39 Everett St, Belleville), from 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Service celebrating Tim's life will be held on Friday, January 20, 2012 at Christ Church Anglican (39 Everett St, Belleville), at 11 am. Reception to follow the service. Interment at Belleville Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, donations to Primate's World Relief and Development Fund (www.pwrdf.org), or a charity of choice would be appreciated. Online condolences WWW.BURKEFUNERAL.CA
