Tony was the friendly neighbour who contributed as much as one person could to making us a closer neighbourhood of South Parkdalians.
In the past, he worked as a construction helper for me, and did good work. At a certain point, he decided to no longer do construction or chores to augment his street income, and I missed his help.
Like so many other neighbours, I was always happy to stop and share some conversation with him whenever I passed by. My standard contribution was a looney each time, and we both expected the transaction --I found some comfort in the consistency of it. Once, I borrowed a looney from him! (Of course, I paid it back later...together with the usual donation.)
When I pass that section of Roncy now, Tony's missing, and it looks empty somehow.

I only know you through "Homeless Man Speaks" but thank you for sharing your life, wisdom and humor with the world. My hope is that you are reunited with your beloved Sharon.

I would usually give Tony my salad, which I saved for him whenever I went to Butler's for a meal. Often he would ask for a cigarette. But if he had one when I offered, he would simply wave the one he had in the air, and say 'I'm OK'. Now that is living according to Christian values - take only what you need. That's true nobility of spirit. Something I'll remember as a good example. R.l.P. Tony.
