WALERIAN KRUK With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved father, Walerian (Walerek) Kruk, on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the age of 86, predeceased by his beloved wife of 61 years, Zofia (Zosia) Litwin. Cherished, loved and devoted father of Edward, Ursula (Allistair), Richard (Brenda) and Christopher (Viki). Beloved Dziadzio to Stephan, Liam and Ian and brother to Mila and Zosia. Walerek will be sadly missed by his brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, as well as relatives in Poland, the United States and England. Predeceased by his parents Franciszek and Maria (Bajcer) Kruk, and his siblings Ala and Adam. Born in the village of Dobromirka in Poland, December 13, 1927, Walerek's strong will and spirit enabled him to survive his family's deportation on February 10, 1940 to forced labour camps in Siberia. After two years, he was moved with his family to the Middle East, where he lost his parents. Orphaned at 13, he joined the Junaki (Polish Army Corps) and lived in Palestine and Egypt for 6 years. He was repatriated with other Polish exiles to England in 1948 and married Zosia, another survivor of Siberian camps, in 1952. There they started their family and in 1962 immigrated to Canada, settling in Toronto. He was a devoted member of Saint Casimir's Polish Parish and the Holy Name of Jesus Society. We will miss his love, joy, stories and humour. Special thanks go to the staff at Copernicus Lodge, who provided care for his final months. Visitation at Turner and Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, Toronto, on Monday, February 17, 2014, from 7-9 p.m. (with prayers at 8 p.m.). A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church, 156 Roncesvalles Avenue, Toronto, on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at 9 a.m. Burial at Assumption Cemetery.
The Guest Book is expired.
