NOTE: SERVICE DATE CHANGED
Born in Wellington, Prince Edward County, the eldest daughter of Nelson and Kathleen Lavender from Millbridge, Hastings County. Laura helped raise her eight siblings as the eldest girl and when she moved to Toronto 72 years ago she ended up raising a whole brood of Batemans as well. She enjoyed her time in Tweed with the George family and at Albert College in Belleville, but wanted to see "The Big City" and so she moved to Toronto as a lady's companion to Maude Bateman at her St. Clair Avenue home in 1942. She stayed with the Batemans over the next seven decades, caring for the elderly and guiding the young. Confidante and friend of five generations of Batemans, as well as June Bushell and sister, aunt, great-aunt and elder of the Lavender family. Fabulous cook, knowledgeable family historian, Las Vegas odds beater, "Corrie" follower and avid, even rabid, fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers - and latterly the Blue Jays. Thanks to all those at Balmoral Club and Mount Sinai Hospital who cared for Laura. Visitation at Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Avenue West, at 12 p.m. on Friday, February 28th (PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF DATE). Service in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice.
