MARTIN, Dorothy May (nee Oakden) - Our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at Humber River Regional Hospital, Church site on Sunday, February 23, 2014. Predeceased by loving husband of 65 years, Alan. Will be sadly missed by daughters Judie and Marilynn, son Michael (Carole), grandchildren Elizabeth (Brent), Carolyn, and Chad (Anna), great-grandchildren Matthew, Destiny, Daphne, and Shawna and also by many family and friends. Dorothy was born in London, Ontario and moved to Toronto as a teenager. She worked with the British Army in Washington, DC during WWII, which is where she met her husband-to-be Alan, a British soldier. After the war, they made their home in the Greater Toronto area and celebrated 65 years of marriage before his passing. Dorothy was a member of the Toronto Rotary Club Inner Wheel since 1966 and was president a number of times. Dorothy was a recipient of the Paul Harris and William A. Peace awards. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 12 noon at Islington United Church, 25 Burnhamthorpe Rd., Etobicoke.
