MILLIGAN, Sister (Agnes) Merle, SSJD (The Sisterhood of Saint John the Divine) - She died peacefully at the Convent on February 28, 2014 at 94 years of age and in her 43rd year of Profession. She was born on May 13, 1919 in Toronto, ON, to Agnes Merle Cuthbertson and John Gilbert Milligan. She is survived by her cousins Gwen Franklin, Shirley Hux, Barbara Allen and Don Allen. She was a veteran of World War II, serving on the Canadian Army Staff in Washington, DC, and later attached to the US Army in the Pacific Military Intelligence Section in Maryland. She graduated from the Montreal General Hospital School of Nursing in 1951 and served there for the next 13 years. She entered the Community in 1964 and made her Profession as a Sister of St. John the Divine on April 19, 1971. Among her many responsibilities in the Sisterhood she worked for several years at St. John's Convalescent Hospital, including four years as Assistant Administrator, and as Nursing Director at the Church Home for the Aged (Cana Place). Requiem Eucharist to be held at St. John's Convent, 233 Cummer Ave., Toronto, ON, M2M 2E8, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2014. A reception will follow. If desired, donations in memory of Sr. Merle may be made to the Sisters of St. John the Divine. Arrangements by R. S. Kane Funeral Home, 416-221-1159.
