MARILYN ELLEN McLEAN (nee MARR) October 25, 1924 - June 3, 2014 With her four daughters by her side, Mum passed away after a brief stay at Sunnybrook Palliative Care. Predeceased in 2004 by her husband of 55 years, Angus Robert McLean, whom she never stopped missing; their marriage was a strong and loving partnership. Loving mother of Barbara (Mort Mitchnick), Diane Ratcliffe (Marc), Debbie (Sean Waller) and Judy Goddard (Steve). Adored "Grunny", "The Grandmother" of Matthew, Michael, Luke, Robbie, Scott and Allison. Predeceased, as well, by her brother Gerald Marr, sister- in-law Betty Heward and brothers-in-law John Heward and Don McLean. She leaves sister-in-law Margaret McLean and many nieces and nephews. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick to John and Edna Marr, Mum moved to Montreal in 1947 after having spent a year in England with St. John Ambulance at the end of the war. Returning to Montreal, she worked for Canada's second mutual fund - and met Dad. After their marriage in 1949, they moved to Sept-Îles, Quebec, where together they raised their family before retiring to Oakville in 1981. Summers at Youghall Beach, winters in Florida and travel with friends and family were highlights of their long and happy life together. Relentlessly curious, Mum was a voracious reader of all genres and a regular reciter of poetry. She was an insatiable traveller and a terrific financial manager. Known for her keen sense of intelligence, strength of character and kindness, she maintained her quiet sense of humour and absolute graciousness right to the end. Mum was the cornerstone of our family and she will be deeply missed. We will try to carry on the values she held and shared with us over her many years of what she described as a wonderful life. Thank you to all her great friends and to the staff at The Dunfield Retirement Residence who made her last years so enjoyable. Thank you, also, to the exceptionally caring and capable staff at Sunnybrook Palliative Care and to her nurturing physicians over her twilight period, Drs. Joshua Waks and Kathy Pritchard. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Reception at The Donalda Club, 12 Bushbury Drive, Don Mills will be held on Sunday, June 22, from 7:00- 9:00 p.m. with tributes at 7:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations, if desired, may be made to Sleeping Children Around the World, or to Cancer Research at Sunnybrook.
