JOSEF MOENIG Josef Moenig, attended by his loving wife, Heidi, passed away peacefully, Friday morning, June 6, 2014 at home, in Clarington, Ontario. Josef, born 1917, in Säckingen, Germany, was the son of the late Josef Moenig and late Emma (Meier) growing up with five siblings: a half-sister Sophie and half-brother Ernst; brother Fritz and sisters Emma and Anna, all predeceased. Josef held a Business Management Diploma from Germany, married Martha (Buehler) in 1942 and had a son Joachim. They immigrated to Toronto, Canada, in 1951, with Josef beginning in 1952 - 53 as a roaster with the Club Coffee Company on Church Street. The company grew and under its various parent companies (Standard Brands, Nestlé, Nabisco, Kraft), Josef held directorships, including Director of Quality Control. Josef travelled worldwide buying and importing coffee; his expertise was widely recognized by firms like Loblaws and Tim Hortons (he developed their coffee blends) and entrepreneurs such as the late David Nichol (Presidents Choice) became valued friends. In 1987, he appeared on CBC's Marketplace as a coffee expert and his advice still being sought after retirement, well into his eighties. In the 1980s, Josef, after a failed marriage, met and married his great love Heidi and started a new life. He was always generous to a fault, helpful to others, wanting the best for his family. He took pride in his extended family, in his career and in becoming a Canadian, proudest when he acquired Canadian citizenship in 1956.
