RICHARD MATELJAN Peacefully and surrounded by his loving family, our beloved Richard passed away in the early morning of Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Oakville- Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. He was in his eighty-seventh year. Left to mourn are his wife of nearly fifty-seven years, Mary (Foster), his children, Rick (Jeanette Wareham), Maria, and Brian (Lana), and his grandchildren, Aaron and Natalie, all of whom he loved beyond measure. His adored sister, Angeline Bezic, survives him, as does her husband, Dušan (Dick) Bezic and many nieces and nephews and their families. Richard was born in Huntsville, Ontario, the son of Kajo and Ivanica Mateljan, who were recent immigrants from Croatia. The family moved to Toronto following the war, and Richard attended Oakwood College and Ryerson Institute of Technology (as it was called then), graduating from the first Photography Course they offered. During his working life, Richard was in the photography and printing businesses. He loved spending time at the family cottage in Muskoka, which he and Mary began building following their marriage. Over the years, Richard also enjoyed the company of the many four-legged members of our family. We wish to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful emergency personnel who answered our call for help, to the caring and compassionate doctors at the OTMH, Dr. Samuel in the ER, Dr. May, Dr. Jedrzkiewicz, nurse Seona, and to all the others who were there for Richard and for us in our hours of need. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Richard's life will be held between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville. If desired, a donation in Richard's memory to the charity of your choice would be sincerely appreciated by the family. Condolences may be left at www.koprivataylor.com
