Eric has been an inspiration and mentor to many geology students. Eric shared with many his passion for the science, the mountains and the outdoors. The Canadian Rockies were his laboratory. As one of his student, the love he shared for geology will live on in me forever.
Our deepest sympathy to Anita and the Mountjoy family.

Eric was a wonderful colleague who cared about his students, went the extra mile in his instruction - was one of the first to examine his course concepts, and had a broad perspective educationally. We will also remember him for his major contribution to the Values Group at McGill.

Eric was an inspiration in our life. He made me appreciate and love geology to the fullest extent and taught me how to think critically. I remember fondly our times on the Miette Reef near Jasper (amongst many other memorable events), listening to his teachings not only with respect to the carbonate rocks under our feet but solving complex structural issues on a far bigger scale as well. His endurance in the mountains was legendary. Despite the age differences, we could not follow him everywhere on most days. His nurturing approach at university made him a respected and cherished mentor. Anita, please accept our very sincere condoleances.

Eric and Anita served as extended family to me while at McGill. Eric loved to challenge you and push the limits of your knowledge. He loved his work, and will always be a giant in the carbonate circle. It is an honour to be one of his students. I am so sorry to hear of his passing, but his ideas will live on.

Eric was my favourite prof at McGill. He made you think when you asked a question by bouncing the question back to you. Some of us knew him as Eric 'what-do-YOU-think' Mountjoy.

Anita, I already miss the quick wit, humour and energy, for which I remember, and will always remember, Eric.

All my sincere condolences to you, Anita, and to all of Eric's family and friends.

I'm so sorry to hear of Eric's passing. I was privileged to work with Eric in conjunction with my post-doctoral project on Miette and Ancient Wall. We spent several field seasons with Eric in Jasper and we continually picked his brain about the Devonian limestones he loved so much. He'll be sorely missed.

I was one of many young and eager people who worked in the Rocky Mountains as a park naturalist and who benefited from Eric's generosity of spirit. Eric would come every summer and take us on a field trip in Jasper National Park - his enthusiam was palpable and contagious...I have wonderful memories of those days and feel blessed to have known Eric and then to have met Anita as well.
My thoughts go out to Anita and the entire family.
