HISCOX, Joan Ruth - January 10, 1920 -- March 2, 2011 Peacefully, surrounded by family at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. Joan was a much loved and loving wife of the late Horace Hiscox. Beloved mother of David (Lisa), Robert (Lynne), Andrew (Dan) and Debbie. Predeceased by daughter Allison Dale. Cherished grandmother of Jason (Tasha), Jamie (Amy), Stephen (Kim), Adam (Cass) and Geoff. Great-grandmother to Bryce, Cooper, Addy, Quinn and Naomi. Fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews and great- nieces and nephews as well as many loved relatives in England. A good friend and 'mother' to many. Joan was born in Hull, Yorkshire to Robert and Alice Tarran and earned her RN in Sheffield. She immigrated to Canada in 1946 after marrying Captain Horace Hiscox in 1945. Joan was an active member of All Saints Anglican Church, Whitby and founded the Deacon's Cupboard, one of the first food cupboards of its time. She was involved in numerous volunteer activities including VON and recipient of the Peter Perry Award for citizenship in Whitby. We would like to thank the wonderful staff at both Taunton Mills and Lakeridge Health Oshawa for their compassionate care and assistance. Private cremation having occurred and due to the ongoing reconstruction at All Saints Anglican Church, a memorial service will be held on March 26th, 2011 at ST. ANDREW'S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 209 Cochrane Street, Whitby at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the All Saints Anglican Deacon's Cupboard or All Saints Anglican Restoration Fund, or charity of your choice.
