KIYONAGA, Joanne Yoshiko (nee Yatabe) - October 25, 1924 - June 25, 2011 After a full life, our Mom passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, June 25th. Loving wife of the late Jerry (Jiro) and beloved mother of Gary (Jane), Judy (Anthony), Corey (Dawn), Dale (Heidi) and Ron. Cherished and loving grandmother to Erin, Devin, Kristofer, Greggory, Lisa, Tyler and Emily. Devoted daughter to the late Tsune and Gensaku Yatabe. Dear sister and sister- in-law of Masao Yatabe (Amy), Kazuko Yatabe, Koto Adachi, Minoru Yatabe (Lydia), Irene Yatabe, Marnie Hirano, Roe Yatabe, Waki Kiyonaga, Eiko Kiyonaga and Lolly Nishi (Ted). Predeceased by her loving brothers Eiji, Phil and Tom, brothers-in-law Terry Adachi, Gus Hirano, Kiheiji (Kay) Kiyonaga and Kitaji (Don) Kiyonaga, and sisters-in-law Lorraine Yatabe and Aki Tateshi. Caring aunt to numerous nieces and nephews and their children. Joanne is fondly remembered by many friends made throughout her life, including those at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, the Momiji Centre, the Wynford Seniors Club, various bowling groups and the Centennial - Japanese United Church. We are grateful to the wonderful staff at the Palliative Care Unit at Sunnybrook Hospital. Family and friends will be received at the Highland Funeral Home, 3280 Sheppard Avenue East, Scarborough, for visitation on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at the Highland Funeral Home. There will be a short visitation starting at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre or the Momiji Health Care Society.
