Dear Dianne - it has been many decades since I last worked with you and Doug. I was so shocked to hear that he spent so many years fighting this terrible disease and fially losing the battle at such a young age. My heart goes out to you and your family. I remember so clearly when the two of you met in Plant & Depreciation Accounting when Doug was a summer student. I remember going to lunch with you when I was back at university and you were glowing when you spoke of him. What a tragic loss. Please accept my very deepest sympathy.

Dear Gosling Family,
In searching the obituary column for a friends listing I happened to see the bird in flight. I have no Idea of why but I clicked on it.
I was surprised to see what it contained. You see, I lost my husband Gary just last year on June 22, 2011 at age 56 to a 4 year battle with odly enough, prostate cancer.
Seeing this post..... "In his final post, Gosling talked about a pair of silver wings on a chain he was given. He looked to them for strength to reach his final destination, wherever it would be. Doug Gosling took flight last week, but his words will help him live on – in the hearts of those he loved, and in the minds of others facing illness who turn to his blog for strength."
You see, today you and your Doug touched me. My Gary had such a similar strength and positive attitude about him. The same illness took him from me. And then the wings! I wear an angel necklace that Gary gave me, because he too took flight, touched many, and will live on through his wit and memory! Thank you for sharing Doug's story. It's almost like Gary is in some way speaking to me, saying he's ok.
I hope my message will somehow add to the comfort that many of your family and friends have offered you.
Thank you so much for sharing.

My deepest sympathy goes to all Doug's family. Doug was my first boss when I started working for "Bell Canada" back in 1979. Doug was such a wonderful person, and very "down to earth". I also admired his healthy good sense of humour. Will remember him in my prayers.

My condolences to Doug's family and friends on Doug's passing. I will always have fond memories of Doug -- he was the kind of individual that made one's life a little richer just by knowing him.
