We called you Mikey.
We called you Dinky.
We laughed really hard.
We cried equally as hard.
We wrote books together /worked like maniacs and played like children/did speeches & workshops/ tap danced/ made films/ argued/ disagreed/ agreed/ and stumbled upon many truths...
I was there through both your pacemaker surgeries and Ray and I were right there with you when the nurse told you the miracle that you'd be getting a new heart within a few hours. That night, when you received your incredibly strong new heart, with Iain and your friends pacing the floor for several hours, it was the beginning of a whole new journey for you... one that paved the way for several medical professionals and patients.
You were a hero.
Mikey.... you were the brightest of the brights... the most outrageous of the outrageous.
And... for sure... you were the BEST dancer any of us knew!
You loved your Iain and children fiercely.
I have never in my life seen a better patient than you and your bravery and courage will be legendary.
Good-bye Migeul.
We've never stopped nor never will stop loving you... Lyn and Ray

Dear Iain,
I was so sorry to hear of Mike's passing; you and his sons are in my thoughts and prayers.
My husband Paul was a heart recipient in 1987 and we met Mike through that program. My cousin Syd Stephen was also Mike's colleague at the North York Board.
Mike did so well after the transplant and was greatly involved, through mentoring, fundraising and socializing with HeartLinks. He and Paul were pioneers in the modern era of heart transplantation - both very brave men.
With my sincere condolences,
Janet
