We are so sad to hear about you Mr. Cavanagh. You've been the best teacher ever to my son Jacob. He still has a post cart from you which you sent to him before he start the school. You have been his role teacher. He can't believe what happened. You gonna be missed. RIP Mr. Cavanagh

Dear Liz, Graeme and Cavanagh family,
We are deeply shocked and grieved by your loss…
Our memories are precious and many. Your Shawn was one of those rare and special people whose kindness touches you in a way you can never forget. He was thoughtful, caring and compassionate, felt for everybody, ever sensitive and understanding.
From the first time we met him and Liz in the karate class our boys were in together, through all of these years of friendship, Shawn proved to be the most devoted and amazing father, a caring husband and a friend we could count on.
We remember the times he would take Graeme and our Alex to have fun together, always joining in himself at their water rides, games, museum trips, or attending the kids birthday parties and playing like one of them… Dropping Graeme off and jogging back to the house, only to pick him up later, bringing Graeme's bike along...
He was such an inspiration for his dedicated running and always genuinely happy to share his big passion.
We remember kid's classes we spent chatting and watching the boys, while he would sometimes check his student's work, always so diligent and responsible. There were familys get-togethers for weekend afternoons and evenings, many events we shared….
We remember Shawn's smile. He remains in our hearts forever, deeply missed.
In this time of your huge loss, and always, we are here for you. With love, Vania, Dusan, Alexander, Marko and Grandpa Jovan

Mr. Cavanagh taught my 10 year old brother when he was in Grade 1. He is now in the fourth grade and being taught in his first grade classroom. He keeps mentioning that Mr. Cavanagh was too young to pass away. My whole family was a huge fan of him. I have fond memories of him during my time at Garthwood Park over 15 years ago.May he RIP.

It's with great sadness we learnt of Mr Cavanagh death today. Came to know him as he was my daughter's teacher at Garthwood Park PS and during athletic events like the Mississauga marathon. Always calm and great to talk to. My sincere condolences to the family. We will always remember you.

So sad to hear of the passing of such a fabulous young teacher. Mr. Cavanagh was my son's Grade 2 teacher and today my son starts Grade 12. Jason's fondest memories of Garthwood included being in Mr. Cavanagh's running club. He was such a patient, caring teacher.

Mr. Cavanagh was my sons' grade 2 teacher at Garthwood. He was a understanding and passionate teacher who was simply adored by many students. He always seemed so happy and cheerful, let it be just meeting him at the corridors at the school or leading the children in their cross country practices. He took the heart and time to show support for my sons and also other children by staying longer on a school day to attend some violin recital later on in the evening or showing up on Saturday morning to attend a soccer game by his students. Mr. Cavanagh would be missed by both parents and students. Our deepest condolences to Mrs. Cavanagh, Graeme and your families.

Tomorrow, September 4th, is when most students return to school to further their education in elementary, middle and high school. Tomorrow, I will be a twelfth grade student.
Ten years ago, I was in Mr Cavanagh's second grade class, having just moved into the area and more than nervous about going to a new school not knowing anyone. It was difficult to make friends, but Mr Cavanagh quietly encouraged me to reach out to others. I remember him to be kind, caring and was very rarely angry with his students. A man of infinite patience and always with a smile.
He will be missed and my prayers go out to his family and friends for his passing.

Mr. Cavanagh was my 2nd grade teacher, and now I am going into grade 12. He was such an inspiration to me in so many ways. He was the sweetest and most passionate teacher I've ever had. He introduced me to run cross country, and I absolutely love it. I will always remember the day he gave me an origami book because he noticed how much I admired it and wanted to get better. My older sister had her co-op placement with Mr. Cavanagh during her high school years, and he was my little cousin Daniel's teacher just a few months ago. He will always be in my heart.

Mr Cavanagh was one of the best teachers my son, Lucas has ever had at Garthwood. He took the time to make it out to my son's hockey game and my son will never ever forget that and we will never forget you Mr Cavanagh. Elizabeth and Graeme-my 2 older kids Lucas and Leila lost their father this past July 30th so we feel your deepest pain and we can truly empathasize. Know you are not alone.

For Budd and I running with Shawn and Dan Cavanagh were some of the best times of our lives. The many 10k and Half-marathon races we entered really felt special knowing Shawn was there at the end of the race to greet you with his heart felt smile and to listen to his advice. We were all one big family. A wonderful, wonderful person. To the families, our deepest sympathies. Dana & Budd Hall and family.

Shawn was my daughters grade one teacher. She is devastated by the news. He was a wonderful man. We still have a photo with a note he wrote for her in our house. I hope the family still has the #1 teacher picture frame we had made for him, cause to us he was.
