I read The Sparrow's Fall back in the 1960s and loved the book, which I still have. My condolences to the family.

Lone Kestrel winging to cross The Lake
Perceived as nought but for Fred's 'take';
His deeper sleep my heart would break;
From Bodworth's words I rise... ...awake.
In deepest sympathy with the entire Bodsworth Family
and Fred's many friends at this sorrowful time.
Sincerely, Peter

To Fred's Family:
I was saddened and moved when I read of Fred Modsworth's passing and I want to espress my sorrow, and my gratefullness for having know such a special man.
I was a young boy of Port Burwell during the early 1950s, and I fondly remember "Mr. Bodsworth" as a very nice man -- in particular, friendly to we kids. I attended the Trinity Anglican church with my mother.. and I remember Fred as playing a leading role in Sunday sermons, leading us in singing "H-A-P-P-Y" during pot luck dinners at the Parish Hall, overseeing the "Christmas Tree" celebrations ... and the like.
Of course as rowdy kids in Sunday School, we had no idea of his work or reputation as an outstanding writer and naturalist.
He was the sort of person that one remebers and makes differnce in your life. Thankyou Fred.

Dear Barbara, Nancy, and Neville, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your families in your father's passing.
I have fond memories of your parents from the first time I met them in 1963 and thereafter while visiting Auntie Flora, Carolyn & Stephen.
