KRISTINA DIANA KNOPP November 25, 1968 - November 4, 2012 Kristina Diana Knopp passed away suddenly on November 4, 2012 at the age of 43 in Nassau, Bahamas after a 2 ½ year battle with a very aggressive form of breast cancer. She was returning on a medical evacuation flight from the Caribbean island of St. Martin where she had spent the week with her beloved husband Kirk Worounig and her 2 daughters Samantha (8) and Stephanie (6). She will be terribly missed by all of us. She is survived by her parents Ildiko and Hermann Knopp, her sister Martha Knopp (husband Luc Maheux, children Alexia, Eric, Natalie, Adrian), her parents-in-law Ursula and Herbert Worounig and her sister-in-law Christa Liddy (husband John and daughters Emily, Nicole and Anna). Kristina was born in Montreal on November 25, 1968, attended the French lycée Marie de France from where she graduated in 1988 with honours. She did very well in all aspects of school (except gym class). She spoke English, French and German. She graduated from the faculty of law at MCGill University with both her civil and common law degrees in 1992. She worked for the federal government in Ottawa for 5 years and then took a position with the Ministry of Finance in the Province of Ontario in 2000 where she continued to work until she passed away. She met her husband Kirk in Toronto in 2000 and they were married in 2002. They were blessed with 2 lovely girls. Kristina was a spirited child who never hesitated to give her opinion. She could be very driven when she was motivated. She was an intensely loyal person to her family and her friends. Kristina always loved animals and she loved watching hockey games (Oilers were her team). She became an excellent cook in her 20s and she enjoyed good food, spending time at the lake and at home with friends and family, reading and her work. Kristina loved to travel and discover new sights, sounds, and tastes. She and her husband travelled to Australia, Micronesia, Hawaii, Florida, Whistler, Las Vegas, New York, and finally St. Martin. Kristina pursued a Christian journey and was very much drawn to God in her time of illness: she felt it made her a better person. She found great support in the encouragement of her family, friends, neighbours, priest and the medical staff at Sunnybrook Hospital. We thank God for the time with her, and memories we have of her...we are sad it was this brief on earth...we are consoled that she is no longer living in the constraints of her disease. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation in memory of Kristina Knopp. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, November 16th at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church, 3055 Bloor Street West, Toronto (Bloor Street West and Royal York Road), followed by a celebration of Kristina's life luncheon in the church hall.
