LANDON, David Rodney - David left this life surrounded by love in the arms of his wife Joy Cross-Landon on Monday, November 19, 2012 at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie from a devastating short illness at the age of 74. He met joy in 1985 and married in 1991. He was a strong, warm-hearted, giving man, a loving husband and father, brother and friend. David was born in Toronto on October 23, 1938 to Emmett and Claudia (nee Engholm) Landon. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces during the late 50's and after that the study of war all through history became his hobby. His greatest passion was motorcycles- he rode for 45 years. David and Joy met when she answered his ad in the Toronto Star for a female companion. They met for coffee, became friends, then soul mates, then husband and wife and the love kept on growing. Retiring in 1998 they moved from Toronto to Midland and then to Barrie in 2010. He and Joy rode with the Retreads, the Forty Plus Riders and the Canadian Side Car Owners Clubs until arthritis forced him to stop in 1998. Then they became RVers exploring Canada and the U.S.A. David worked in the Fire Sprinkler Industry and was a retired member of Local 853, Toronto. Loving dad of David E. Landon (Cherie) and Margaret Landon (George Badal). Grandpa to Natasha, Michele (Tommy), Daryl and James. David was the devoted son-in-law of Ruth and the late Harry Haggerty. Super step-dad of David Cross (Crystal) and daughter Lily, and to Joanne Foxton (James) and daughter Peyton, all of Barrie. Devoted brother of Diana Woychesko (Bill) and Pat Keindel (Keith). Uncle to six nieces and nephews and their families. Brother-in-law to Bill Haggerty (Pat Casselman) and Janis Alsop (Alan). 'Big Dave' will be missed by all the "Haggerty" nieces, nephews and their families. Friends may call at ADAMS FUNERAL HOME, 445 St. Vincent St., Barrie on Friday, November 23, 2012 from 10 a.m. until time of a Celebration of David's Life at 11 o'clock a.m. Interment Barrie Union Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, where David received such exceptional care, or to your local OSPCA would be appreciated by the family.
