EVANS, Bruce William - Peacefully, at St. Joseph's Health Centre, on Friday, November 23, 2012. Beloved husband of the late Kathleen Evans (nee Forteath). Cherished father of Rev. Janet Evans and her husband Michael MCQuaid of Iroquois. Dear "Grampy" of Hilary MCQuaid (Zack Lundy). Predeceased by infant daughter Marilyn Anne Evans (1947) sister Thelma and brother- in-law Walter Hill and parents Nancy and Percy. Bruce will be lovingly remembered by family, friends and neighbours. Kathleen and Bruce met in England in 1944. Bruce was a World War II Veteran and was on the beaches at D Day. He was active in his church, branch 210 of the Royal Canadian Legion (life member), volunteer at Trillium Hospital and was on the Board of Directors that created Wesburn Manor. For his lifetime of volunteer work, Bruce was awarded the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award (2004). Bruce was a member of St. James United Church for over 50 years. He served on many committees including the refugee committee. The family wishes to convey their thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Trillium, Etobicoke General and St. Joseph's hospitals. The family thanks Richview Residences, Westside Manor and Wesburn Manor for all their care and concern. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter "Butler" Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., Toronto (between Islington and Kipling Aves.), on Friday from 6-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. James United Church, 400 Burnhamthorpe Rd., on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 11 a.m. If desired, remembrances may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or St. James United Church.
