THOMAS BEST HENDRY 1929 - 2012 Passed away peacefully December 2, 2012. Loving husband of 49 years to Judith and proud father of three children: Thomas, Christopher and Ashleigh, and son-in-law Jeffrey Henderson. Tom was a playwright, theatre pioneer, cultural innovator, Chartered Accountant and an Officer of the Order of Canada. His plays include Fifteen Miles of Broken Glass (Ontario Lieutenant Governor 's Medal), Satyricon, You Smell Good To Me, Gravediggers of 1942, Hogtown and Finger of Fate. He was a co-founder of the Manitoba Theatre Centre, the Toronto Free Theatre and the Banff Playwrights Colony, and served as Chair of a federal task force on the National Arts Centre. He was co-founder of the Playwright's Co-op and served as Secretary General of the Canadian Theatre Centre. He was the first Literary Manager of the Stratford Festival. He was a longtime policy advisor for the Toronto Arts Council. He will be greatly missed and always loved. Service at St. James Cathedral on Friday, December 7 at 2 p.m. Plans are being made for a memorial celebration in the new year. Donations can be made to the Actors' Fund of Canada.
