Harry GOODBODY Obituary

GOODBODY, Harry - Received into the arms of the Risen Christ on Friday, December 21, 2012, in his 91st year. The son of John Goodbody and Henrietta Gray of Toronto, Harry was born on October 27, 1922, the brother of Lily Bradley, Minnie Webb, and Elsie Morgan, all of whom predeceased him by many years. In 1947, Harry married Ellen Rose Wakelin and they were the proud parents of Barbara, Jacqueline (deceased) and John. The Goodbody family lived in Scarborough for many years, where Harry worked as an auto mechanic. In his free time he was a great lover of sports and was highly respected as a referee for kids' hockey. At retirement Harry and Rose moved to Forest Harbour (near Waubaushene), where he enjoyed curling and lawn bowling. Rose died in 1983. Harry eventually moved back to Toronto and for his last seven years, lived at the Veteran's Residence of Sunnybrook Hospital where he was looked after with genuine love and respect. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and especially by his parish church, all of whom want to express sincere thanks to the Sunnybrook staff for their attentiveness and care. A Memorial Eucharist will be held to celebrate Harry's life at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 5th at The Church of St. Augustine of Canterbury (1847 Bayview Avenue at Broadway), followed by a reception. Charitable donations may be made in Harry's honour to Sunnybrook Veterans Residence or to The Church of St. Augustine of Canterbury.
