JOHNSTON, Patricia (nee Hurrell) - Died suddenly in her 86th year, sitting in her favorite chair. Predeceased by her husband Doug, her second husband Cecil, and her best friends: sister Betty Hautamaki and sister-in-law Laura Riley. She will be dearly missed by her sister Joan Springate (Donald); nieces Julia Warren (Brad), Leta Hautamaki (Robert), Susan Newbury (Mike) and Pauline Springate; nephews Andrew Hautamaki and the late Brent Springate; as well as her many great-nieces and nephews. Pat relished in scrumptious meals, well-manicured gardens and afternoon tea - especially in the company of her adored cats. Pat was admired for her generosity (giving faithfully to numerous charities), her sharp memory (perfectly recounting details of her service work after WWII and later in the Eaton's offices), her commitment to tell-it-like-it-is, and above all, her kindness. Special thanks to her friends who helped make it possible for her to stay in her beloved home for more than 50 years (extra thanks to Iris and Jimmy Stewart) and to the caregivers at the Donway Place where she spent her final days. Friends may call at PINE HILLS CEMETERY & VISITATION CENTRE, 625 Birchmount Rd., Scarborough (north of St. Clair Ave., 416-267-8229) on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, January 10th at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
