AUDREY MARIE WOOD (née STEVENS) June 4, 1919 - January 22, 2013 In her 94th year, with her beloved family by her side, Audrey slipped quietly away after a long and courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Born in Saint John, NB, she spent her childhood days in Halifax, NS, moving to Montreal as a young girl and on to Toronto for her high school days. She remained in Toronto for the rest of her life, with the exception of a year and a half stay in the UK following her marriage in 1944 to Dennis, a young Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Air Force. In her usual, determined manner, Audrey blended her life as a caring, supportive mother and wife with her 30 year career with CIBC and with her service to the community. For a number of years she lead the annual fundraising efforts in her local area for the Ontario Heart Fund. Retiring in 1984, she spent many happy years with her husband and their loyal canines at their home and at their cottage in Prince Edward County. She also took annual trips to visit her husband's family in the UK and her daughter-in-law's family in Florida. Sadly missed by her beloved husband of 68 years, Dennis, her son Dennis, daughter-in-law Gladys De Schepper (and her brother John), sister Rosamond MACDonald (Gordon), half-brother William (Corrine), brother-in-law Fred and her cousins, nieces and nephews in the UK, US and Canada and her godchild Barbara. Predeceased by her mother Gertrude Sloane, step-father Frank Sloane, father William Stevens, brother Edward (Bud)and his wife Rose. We wish to give heartfelt thanks to Audrey's home caregivers, Addis, Samia, Audrey, Paulette, Nadia, Keri-Ann and Orique and her home nurse Maria who assisted her husband Dennis to make it possible for her to live at home for all but the final weeks of her illness. We also thank the caring staff of Rouge Valley Centenary Hospital who provided helpful guidance to the family and made her last days as comfortable as possible. Dearest Audrey, steadfast and true, we will miss your quiet strength, elegant style, gorgeous smile and laughing voice. We will always love you and will never forget.
