FRANK THEODORE JOHNSTON (1927 - 2013) Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at North York General Hospital of complications related to Alzheimer's disease. Beloved husband of 50 years of Theresa (nee Daciw) and father of Gillian May (Martin Shaw) and Catherine Jane, proud grandfather of Hillary and Jonathan Pinos, son of the late Robert Alexander and Ethel May and brother of the late Anne Marilyn (Charles Baillie) and the late Jane Roberta (Harold Knight). Frank will be fondly remembered by his devoted and loving caregivers Dennis Bueno, Dennis Desouza, Michelle and Anne Ganzon, Connie Cuartero, Regina Labescase and Ines Campos. The family sends special thanks to Dr. Margaret Chu and Dr. Chance Ig for their attentive care over the years, to the staff at 8W NYGH and to Aubrey and Darryl Weir for their years of friendship and for maintaining Frank's farm. Frank had a long, successful and truly rewarding career as a general surgeon at the North York Branson Hospital, commencing with his appointment as an active staff member in 1957 until his retirement in 1997. During his tenure at Branson, he held a series of hospital appointments including Chief of Staff, Chief of Surgery and Section Head of General Surgery as well as several staff appointments including Secretary, Vice President, President and Past President of the Medical Staff. Frank graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1949 at 22 years of age. Post-graduation, Frank was a fellow/intern/resident at St. Michael's Hospital, The Hospital for Sick Children and St. Joseph's Hospital in Toronto, Queen Mary Veteran's Hospital in Montreal and The Lahely Clinic in Boston, MA. Frank, a "$100-member" of the Osler Bluff Ski Club, loved to ski and to escape in both winter and summer to his farm in the Blue Mountains overlooking picturesque Georgian Bay. He loved books, knowledge and education, sports and bird watching, but most of all he was kind, caring and gave his all to everyone and everything. The family will receive friends at the Mount Pleasant Visitation Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road, East Gate Entrance, on Sunday, February 24, 2013 in the Chapel at 11:00 a.m.
