JEAN MIRRLEES Charter Member of OES Chapter 302 Peacefully at Bradford Valley Long Term Care Centre, Thursday, February 21, 2013 with her family by her side. Jean Albertha Armstrong, in her 91st year. Daughter of the late Thomas and Bella of Stayner. Predeceased by her husband Bill (1987). Wonderful loving mother of Doug (Yvonne), Nancy Brash (John) and Dave (Karen). Very special Gramma Jean (GJ) to Tamara, Michael (Tracey), Tracey, Laura, Wendy (Peter), Mark (Charlotte), Alison, Jessica and Susan. Great- grandmother to Alicia, Megan, Tyler, Kayla, Christoph er, Jordan and Nicholas . Survived by her loving sister Velma Spry. Predeceased by her sisters Marietta Nutt, Lillian Brillinger and her brother Bill Armstrong. Jean and Bill met at a Presbyterian Young Peoples Society event in Stayner when the Collingwood members were visiting. They were married in 1943 and moved to Toronto, after Jean left her job at the 5 to a Dollar on Main Street in Stayner. After several moves, they settled in Richmond Hill where they once again attended the Presbyterian Church. As a loyal and dedicated member, Jean's involvement included teaching Sunday school, attending Bible Study groups, being an usher on Sunday mornings and was instrumental in forming the Mary and Martha Guild. For many years, Jean worked with preschool aged children at Tiny Town Nursery School. In the early 1970s, Jean started working in the cafeteria at York Central Hospital, where she was the afternoon cashier until her retirement in 1988. Jean loved growing plants and was especially fond of her African Violets. In 2009, Jean moved to Park Place Retirement Home in Aurora. Late summer in 2012 Jean moved to Bradford and stayed with family until she relocated to Bradford Valley Long Term Care Centre. Special thanks to Stacey and the wonderful staff in Orchard house who cared for Mom and comforted our family through the most difficult time. Visitation for Jean will be at Marshall Funeral Home, 10360 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill, on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will take place at Richmond Hill Presbyterian Church, 10066 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill, Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 2 p.m. Donations in memory of Jean can be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
