EDWARDS, Sidney Herbert - On Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, Sid lost his three-year battle with lung cancer. He would have been eighty years old in August. He was predeceased by his parents, Hilda and Ernie Edwards of Englehart, Ontario and his little brother, Teddy. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 55 years, Barbara (Morrison) and his dear daughters, Karen (Michael Harant) and Leslie (Paul Johnston). He was a very proud grandfather of Alex Harant, Lindsay Harant, Garrett Johnston and Aidan Johnston. As well he felt very lucky to have such wonderful sons-in-law in Mike and Paul. Sid began his working life as a potato grower in Northern Ontario, but after a few years he decided to try industrial sales in the Toronto area. He eventually became the owner of his business, D.C. Power Systems and was well known for more than 25 years in the industrial battery and load bank business. An unquenchable optimist, Sid was willing to try many projects, such as building his own first home in Englehart, installing a pool in the back yard, inventing a solar heater for the pool (many years before solar heaters became available) and never seemed to worry about failing at them. They usually turned out very well. (The solar heater was not too successful). Sid was a great reader and loved to travel, especially when accompanied by good friends. After retirement he enjoyed the Probus Club and volunteered as a driver at CHATS and at the Inn From the Cold. He spent many hours at his computer investing in the stock market, which fulfilled his entrepreneurial spirit. When he and Barbara were married he acquired a large number of new relatives. He was a wonderful son-in-law and brother-in-law and will be sadly missed by Mary Moon, Donald Morrison, Laurie Lacarte, Louise Dutton and Jessie Morrison along with numerous nephews and nieces. Sid's daughters and grandchildren meant everything to him. He considered them his greatest achievement. Nothing was too much trouble where they were concerned. Over the years and many illnesses, Sid had wonderful doctors, nurses and volunteers at both Southlake Hospital and the Stronach Cancer Centre. He would like us to mention especially Dr. Remo Zadra and Dr. Kathryn Towns. Services will be held at Roadhouse and Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main St. South, Newmarket, Ontario L3Y 3Y9, 905-895-6631. Visitation will be on Saturday, July 20th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Funeral Service at 2 p.m. Family and friends are invited to a reception after the service.
