BROWNRIDGE, Frederick Alan, BASc., P.Eng 4T8 - Born January 4, 1924 in Toronto, Ontario, Alan passed peacefully after a long illness on Friday, August 23, 2013, at the Brant Centre in Burlington, ON. He was in his ninetieth year. The son of Earl T. Brownridge and G. May (Bennett) Brownridge (both deceased), Alan was the loving and cherished husband of Patricia K. "Bunny" (Joyce) Brownridge for 65 years. He was a proud and devoted father and grandfather to son Rick and wife Joni Blanshard, and their children Rebecca, James, and Kasandra Brownridge; Patti and her husband David Plant, and their children Tristan, Miranda (husband Todd Byers), and Titania Plant; Doug and Jacquie Brownridge, and their children Sean and Brittany Brownridge, and Mark and Elissa Uhlman. Alan is also survived by his brother Douglas A. Brownridge and his wife Norma, and their families, sons Jim (and Linda) Brownridge and Don (and Robin) Brownridge, and grandson Jeremy Brownridge. A vibrant athlete all his life, Alan excelled at hockey and played in Toronto youth leagues, ultimately playing centre for the Toronto Marlboros. During WWII, Alan served in the RCNVR as a Sub-Lieutenant, and completed Officer Training at King's College in Halifax, where he met some of his dearest and lifelong friends. He returned to the University of Toronto in 1945, finishing his Engineering and Business Degree in 1948. He was a member of the Delta Theta chapter of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Alan's professional career was with Procter & Gamble for 37 years, as Manager, Professional & Regulatory Services, Product Development. During that time he served on the Metric Commission Canada, the Canadian Manufacturers Association, the Canadian Packaging Association, Canadian Grocers Association, and the International Joint Commission for the Great Lakes Waterways, which he co-chaired. In retirement, Alan summered on Muldrew Lake in Muskoka where he sailed his Laser and golfed with Bunny at the South Muskoka Golf Club. For 25 years Alan and Bunny wintered and golfed at Countryside Golf & Country Club in Naples, Florida. Alan was also a member of the Caledon Ski Club for over 40 years. A private family service will be held. A Celebration of Alan's life will be announced at a later date. Condolences only, please.
