DAVID DELAP Obituary

DAVID LESLIE DELAP Passed away suddenly at Bradford Valley Long Term Care on Tuesday, September 17, 2013. Born in Middleton Nova Scotia, December 11, 1934 to Kathleen and Gordon Delap (deceased). On May 18, 1957 he married Joan Cook and in May of 1970 moved his family to Aurora where he and Joan had 43 years of love and happiness. Flying was his passion and while working at Canada Dry in North York he pursued upgrading his Private Pilots license untill he became Chief Flying Instructor at Maple Air Services. He was later hired by Transport Canada as a Civil Aviation Inspector and was well known at many airports, particularly Buttonville. He was a lifetime member of the Harley Owners Group and an avid boater and fisherman. He is survived by his loving wife Joan, daughter Jacqueline "KIM" Delap and her husband Benjamin Baskin and younger brother Fred Delap. He was predeceased by his youngest daughter Kathleen Joan Delap on October 26, 1981. Friends may call at the Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Saturday at 1 p.m. followed by interment at Aurora Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends are requested to make charitable donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Parkinson Society Canada or the Ontario SPCA. SORRY TO HEAR OF DAVE'S PASSING I AM SURE IT IS A GREAT LOSS TO THE FAMILY.
I HAVE MANY GREAT MEMORIES OF FLYING WITH DAVE ,HE HIRED ME AS A PART TIME INSTRUCTOR AT MAPLE AIR SERVICES IN THE MID 1970'S AND DID MANY INSTRUMENT RATING RENEWALS FOR ME,ONE MEMORABLE FLIGHT WAS A DAY TRIP TO NEW YORK CITY IN A TWIN COMMANCHE .

My condolences to Joan and family. I worked with Dave at Maple in the '70s, a real gentleman. Dave did my commercial flight test, and I will always remember him for his big smile and sense of humor.

I remember David from meeting him and his brother Freddie on Arlington Ave in Toronto in the '50's. Seemed to be a great guy and I'm sure he will be missed.
