FREDA MARY CLARKSON (BRETT) Died peacefully on February 17, 2014 in her 92nd year. Freda was the devoted wife of the late Guy Clarkson for 53 years. She was the loving and dedicated mother of John, Ann and Mike (Kologinski), and was the dearly beloved grandmother of Peter and Alex. Freda will be missed by her sister-in-law Mary (Whitten), and her nephews Michael (Silvia) and Chris (Wendy) Duff. Freda had four great passions in her life: her family, her homeland England, her adopted country Canada, and walking and spoiling her many beloved dogs! She proudly served her country as a wren with the British Navy for two years during World War II, which was a highlight of her life. She was stationed in Malta, decoding messages. After the war, Freda moved back to Canterbury, England where she was born. Then she decided to leave war-ravaged England and move to Toronto. She wanted to be closer to her late sister Joan who had started a family in Ottawa. She worked at Prudential Insurance in Accounting. She met her husband Guy at a tea for British expatriates. They were married on July 5, 1952. They spent many enjoyable summers together in Muskoka on Lake Joseph with their family, a place they both loved. Guy and Freda shared a love of all wildlife and being in nature. Freda will be remembered for her kindness and great sense of fun! She had a love for cooking, gardening, playing games, sunbathing in Malta first and then in Muskoka, shopping for clothes, especially in New York City, one of her favourite spots on earth, enjoying a gin and tonic on the dock at the cottage, and an ice cream a day, if possible! Friends will be received at the SHERRIN FUNERAL HOME, 873 Kingston Road (west of Victoria Park Avenue), Toronto, 416-698-2861, on Saturday, February 22nd from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., with a service to follow in the chapel at 1 p.m. Interment at St. John's Norway Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations to the World Wildlife Fund would be most welcome. The family wishes to express deepest appreciation to the members of their mother's wonderful care team at Leisureworld O'Connor Gate. Online condolences at sherrinfuneral.ca
