ELAINE HALL Obituary

ELAINE "QUEENIE" HALL (nee VAUTIER) It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Elaine in her 83rd year on October 9, 2014. After a long and lively reign, the Queen has stepped down. Elaine will be lovingly remembered by her "long-suffering" husband (and hero) Harry of 47 years. Elaine is survived by her sisters Dionne Gysi (Switzerland) and Simonne (Sim) Guegan (Channel Islands) and her adoring nephews and nieces Pascale, Serge, Kim, Zillah, Oonagh, Wayne and Julian. Predeceased by her siblings Emile (Mel) Vautier and Germaine (Gem) Blair-Quigg, and nephews Paul and Nicholas. Mum will be remembered for her astonishing capacity for exaggerated storytelling, her British wit and her passion for community theatre. As a mother, she was a force to be reckoned with, sadly missed by her two daughters and sons-in-law Allison and Rob Menegoni (London) and Sarah and Blair Oddson (Aurora). Elaine was an adoring Nan and comic genius to her grandchildren Madelaine Menegoni and Hazel and Quinn Oddson. Elaine will be fondly remembered by many from Markham Little Theatre, the British Ladies Club and countless friends near and far. We thank the superb staff team at Southlake Regional Health Centre for the quality of care and support provided. Mum will remain a reminder to us all that humour in the face of adversity is the absolute best way to handle life's challenges. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of Elaine's life at the Backstage Rehearsal Space at the Markham Museum, 9350 Hwy. 48, Markham, Ontario (just north of 16th Ave. on the West Side of Hwy. 48), on Saturday, October 18th, 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations will be graciously accepted at the door for the Markham Little Theatre.

Elaine-you were an inspiration to many, a fiery ball of laughter and one who has always looked at the positive side of anything and everything. And you and Harry were there for mum 4 years ago.
You will be remembered fondly by Maya, Charlotte and I....

Mum, there is and will only be one YOU. My greatest adversary, my most inspired teacher. I love and miss you more than words can express. Love, love, love is all that remained in that room at the end. Love, and Archie. xo

Thirty years ago we were Girl Guide leaders and Elaine made our weekends so much fun. Her enthusiasm, empathy and love of people inspired all who met her! She will be missed.Muriel Lee

We feel truly fortunate to have counted Elaine as our dear friend. She was a true inspiration to us over the years as she dealt with her various health setbacks and yet in true British tradition "got on with it" and lived a meaningful vibrant life, savouring the good times and pushing the not so good times into the background. We shall miss her wit and wisdom, generosity of spirit and energy very much.
