Patricia WATSON Obituary

WATSON, Patricia Anne - March 12, 1930 - February 13, 2015 We are sad to announce that Patricia Watson has passed away after several months of declining health. Pat was a prize-winning film director, screenwriter and successful artist and an inspiration to us all. She was the loving mother of Sasha King and Maggie King (recently deceased) and step-mother of Anna King in the UK. A very devoted sister to Beverley Coney. Cherished grandmother of Aidan, Theo, Allie, Alice, Angus, Isobel and Iona. Loving aunt to Susanne Hudson, Jack Coney, Robin Bird, Laura Francis, John Hudson, Leslie Noble and Lisa Coney. Adored great-aunt to several nieces and nephews. Pat started her career as a screenwriter in the 50s at the National Film Board in Montreal. In the late 60s and 70s she was in Toronto with husband and co-creator of film, director Allan King. Pat worked at TVO in the late 70s with her good friend/TV producer Babs Church and made several breakthrough documentaries on immigration, adoption and women in mid-life. Pat was also a gifted writer and published a novel in 2004 alongside her friend, York University professor Frances Beer. She was a member of the Heliconian Club for many years where she had several exhibitions of her art. To Pat's dear friends, we will keep you advised of a memorial service to be held for Pat sometime in the spring of 2015.
