ALEXANDRE RAAB Obituary

ALEXANDRE RAAB August 9, 1924 - September 16, 2015 Alex died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by Jeannine, his beautiful wife of 64 years. Together they built a life full of love that they generously shared with all who came to know them. Alex leaves his children Simon (Diana), Andre (Nancy), Serena (Frank) and David (Kim); his 10 grandchildren; his great- granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. He adored his family and friends around the world and they adored him. His loss is deeply felt by so many. An extraordinary man by so many measures, everyone who had the good fortune to have Alex touch their lives was better for knowing him. He was a man of great intellect and many accomplishments, but most of all he will be remembered as a man whose heart was full of love and generosity. The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Geoff Litner and the wonderful team of caregivers who assisted with Alex's care and supported Jeannine and the family throughout his illness. At Alex's request, no funeral will be held. Friends and family are invited to join us for a celebration of his life. Please note the revised date, we will gather to remember Alex on Friday, October 9th at 10 a.m. at the Vaughan Estate at the Estates of Sunnybrook, 2075 Bayview Ave., Toronto. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, the Canadian Society for Yad Vashem or Beit Halochem Canada.

The rose farm in Goodwood was an amazing site to see. Alex would invite his White Rose staff to an annual summer picnic and we could see his rose bushes in full bloom. I believe his business on highway 7 was the first of its kind. I was sad when it all came to an end. I bought my first car a battered orange Volkswagen, Beetle in 1976 from the Raabs for $300. It took me to work and back . I think that this colourful man with his beret was someone worth knowing . Rest peacefully

In the words of Mr. Rivlin, President of Israel: Alex was a fighter for whom the vision of Zionism and of Israel - the political liberation of the Jewish People beat in his veins. His deep Zionist roots were planted many years ago, in the period of the establishment of Petach Tikva.

There are innumerable causes, Universities, educational institutions, Hospitals and libraries that were beneficiaries of Alex and Jeannine's magnanimous donations.

Alex's generosity touched the lives of the IDF wounded soldiers & veterans, Israeli Agriculture, The Jabotinsky Institute, The Menachem Begin Heritage Centre, Aish Hatorah World Center Jerusalem, Michlalah Jerusalem, Hebrew University, The City of Atlit, Boystown Jerusalem and Ariel University.

We are confident that the achievements of Alex Raab will continue into the future. Our prayers are with the Raab Family, children and grandchildren.

Hey there Dave and the rest of the Raab family,

I know that this is a huge leak of love that won't heal quickly but take comfort in knowing that you all now have your very own guardian angel! I know your family and friends will be able to celebrate his life in a positive way as he was such an inspiring, non-judgmental man...truly one of the good ones, and I know he'd like that!

I guess our dad's will be chatting with each other now, and I'm sure they'll both be giving God an earful when they get the chance they'll just be making sure that spots will be ready for everyone else when it's our turn to make the trip...that's just their way whether on earth or in heaven.

In the words of Eric Clapton, Till we meet again, in Heaven

You and your loved ones are in our thoughts and prayersGod bless to all...

Alex, there is no greater display of reserve one will ever see than the dignified but understated text we read here about you. But it is appropriate because modesty, and constant deflections away from conversations about your generosity was one of your many attributes. You were a fearless titan, a brilliant, generous man, a big cuddly bear to children, who showed unconditional love to all your extended family, and extended material assistance to countless individuals and institutions. A self-proclaimed "simple rose farmer," you helped bring not only roses, but people's lives into bloom. Each of us, your roses, know we are just that, and know how much we owe to both you and to your love, your equal, your beautiful Jeannine. We will miss you Alex, but we will never for a moment forget you. Thank you for everything you did for me and for my family. Thank you for showing me the true meaning of greatness.

My dear first cousin you will be sorely missed. You came into my life before your 50th birthday saying, "it is time we got to know each other". From that time forward even though a great distance counted in miles and a country apart you participated both times that I made a wedding . We were years apart but first cousins and you will always be remembered as a kind and caring man who took care of our beloved Aunt Ilus in Israel.
Rest in peace dear cousin.
