My son was so lucky to have Ms. Souther as his Grade 1 teacher. She was always so patient, kind and loving to each student and had a wonderful sense of humour. She touched so many families. We will never forget her love of animals, children and her CDS family.

I will miss a great pal and a coffee lover. Words are too inadequate, even for a former teacher.

We were so saddened to hear the news of Mrs Souther. Both of our children were fortunate enough to learn from her kindness and wisdom. The guinea pigs and fish were indeed a huge hit in the classroom. I do not doubt that she instilled a curiosity and love of education in our kids that has never waned. She will be truly missed!

I first met Marilyn 22 years ago when my son Philippe was in her grade 1 class. One morning, I tentatively asked if my twin boys could attend the upcoming Hallowe'en party. Harrison and Spencer were only six weeks old, and I didn't know how Marilyn would feel about two infants visiting that day. I did not need to worry as Marilyn was thoroughly delighted. With that beaming smile of hers, she encouraged me to "Bring them in". That day, they arrived in a basket, as they could both fit in one, and we all had a marvellous visit.
A few years later we became colleagues, and I had the pleasure of teaching French to Marilyn's students. She always addressed me in French and she would not give up until she found the right words or expressions. This process could take several minutes, which often sent me giggling, she was persistent and determined to communicate only in French during those sessions. I so appreciated her support for the French program, and her pupils knew how special it was to speak another language.
We became very good friends over the years, she had a great sense of humour, and she was always keen to embark on a new adventure with her trademark expression - "Alright!"
Marilyn was a treasured friend, and to the end, she wanted to hear about my family and my dogs. She loved life, she genuinely cared about her friends, former colleagues and students, and was so appreciative of any blessing that came her way. She was a constant source of encouragement and she brought so much joy and laughter. I will miss you dear friend, you hold a special place in my heart.

It was with a heavy heart that I heard of Marilyn's passing. She was a special friend, a special teacher and a special colleague to me and others in her CDS family. Marilyn was such a caring, perceptive and positive person, regularly encouraging others and frequently inquiring about the families of friends, colleagues and past students. I extend my sincere condolences to Marilyn's brother and his wife and to Michael and Melissa whom she frequently spoke of, so lovingly and proudly. Marilyn's three CDS amigos will so miss her at our lunch get togethers. It is a time we have all treasured since Marilyn's retirement from CDS (2008), a time when we could reconnect, sharing the delights of retired life, family and CDS updates. I feel fortunate to have had Marilyn in my life and would most certainly like to attend her Celebration of Life when it happens.

Ms. Souther was such a gifted teacher and caring person and she will be deeply missed. Both my children had the pleasure of being part of her wonderful, joyous Grade 1 class where guinea pigs squeaked, fish swam and chameleons perched. The children learned such important lessons by taking care of these creatures every day. They learned the importance of being kind, curious, reliable, and patient. They learned, in essence, to be just like Ms. Souther. Her interest in her students' achievements and well-being carried on long after they left her classroom and indeed the Junior School. I will never forget her kindnesses toward our family.

I think that the experience of the Country Day School is a series of encounters. Our family's first encounter was with Marilyn Souther. It was a rich, rewarding and deeply fulfilling relationship that ensued in the years that followed. Marilyn could see the potential in our high energy boy and encouraged him to channel that energy. She was a gifted educator and became a valued freind. She followed our son's progress thru the school to graduation and beyond. I like to think that some of her rubbed off on him and is there to this day. It may take a village to raise a child but I think the moral compass that Marilyn instilled is a great guide for him. I am grateful for her contributions to so many that passed thru her class and carry a little bit of Marilyn along with them in their journey thru life.

Ms. Souther was the first teacher our first child had sixteen years ago. She was so wise and adept at helping us via her vast teaching experience. I recall many of her insightful reflections that have since proven to be quite accurate. I am grateful for her stellar role in starting my children on their individual paths of learning. I will miss her.

I couldn't have wished for a more kind spirited adult to impart so much wisdom and wonder at such a tender age. A wonderful teacher, an even better human being. She affected hundreds of peoples lives in a positive manor, and embodied the perfect educator. She will be missed by many.

Ms. Souther was my Grade 1 teacher at CDS and a teacher I will never forget. Her love of learning, animals, and life was something she passed on to every student who was lucky enough to be in her class. The CDS community will miss her dearly.

For years at CDS Ms. Souther gave classes of students a solid foundation on which to grow and learn. She took great pride in watching each of "her kids" excel through the years.

Thank you Ms. Souther for your dedication and caring. You made learning fun and your classroom feel like home.
