EDWARD WHITLOCK Obituary

EDWARD FREDERICK WHITLOCK March 6, 1931- March 13, 2017 Passed away peacefully at Princess Margaret Hospital on March 13, 2017 at the age of 86. Edward leaves behind Brenda, his beloved wife of 58 years, his sister Catherine and sons Neil and Clive. His wisdom, guidance, support and strength of character will be greatly missed. Ed was born in London, United Kingdom on March 6, 1931 and received his designation as a Professional Engineer from the Royal School of Mines in London and subsequently immigrated to Canada in 1952. In his career as a Mining Engineer at Domtar, Ed served at a variety of positions and locations within the company, raising his family in Woodstock, Guelph, Don Mills and Montreal before settling in Milton in 1984. However, Ed will best be known for his incredible athletic achievements, holding dozens of age class world records, ranging from 1,500 metres to the marathon. Ed was the first person over the age of 70 to ever run a sub 3 hour marathon and just last October, Ed became the first runner over the age of 85 to run a sub 4 hour marathon, knocking over 35 minutes off the old world record. Despite all his accomplishments, all people who knew Ed considered him to be one of the most modest, self-deprecating people they have ever met. Ed was never one to boast about his achievements. He would just say; "Thank you very much." Friends and well wishers are invited to attend J. Scott Early Funeral Home, 21 James Street, Milton, 905-878-2669, on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Grace Anglican Church, 317 Main Street, Milton, on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Private cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Milton District Hospital Foundation or the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. Messages of condolence may be left online at www.earlyfuneralhome.com
