HELEN MO Obituary
HELEN HOI LING MO With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Helen Mo, who died in her sleep during the early morning of April 11, 2017. Helen was 33 years old; her death was peaceful but unexpected. Countless people, including her husband, Terrence Liu, her parents, Jane and Sam Mo, her sister Alison, her brother Anthony and Terrence's family, Pius Liu, Wendy Wu, Garry Liu and Deborah Han, cherish Helen's memory. A PhD candidate at the University of Toronto's Department for the Study of Religion, Helen's dissertation on religion in the public sphere and multiculturalism in the GTA was highly anticipated. She was at the heart of several communities, including as a Junior Fellow at Massey College and Victoria College. Helen held a BA/BEd and an MA in History from Queen's and was a devoted teacher at Kennedy Collegiate Institute in Windsor from 2009-2012. Helen was renowned for her unflinching intellectual boldness, warmth and integrity. She spoiled her friends with elaborate adventures, profound conversation and loving attention. She was stylish and charming and could often be found at a gallery, theatre, or gelateria. Helen had an insatiable appetite for life and never took a moment for granted. She was a fierce feminist, kind stranger and a loving sister, daughter and wife. Helen's family and friends will celebrate her life on April 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at Victoria College. The communities who loved Helen will be dedicating a tree and bench in her memory and will found the Helen Mo Memorial Scholarship through the University of Toronto.
