It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce that our beloved mother, Anne Stakiw passed away peacefully on March 31, 2013 at the age of 97 years old. She had lived her life with each day full of love for all those who knew her. Her smile and vivacious spirit touched the hearts of everyone. Anne Stakiw was born on the homestead farm in Wishart, SK. She and her husband Walter lived in Yorkton, SK and Saskatoon, SK. Anne always had an open- house policy and welcomed all to her humble home with grace, and open arms and a table full of food and a place to stay. She was a great cook, great entertainer and enjoyed the company of everyone who stepped into her home. When Anne became your friend, she was your friend for life. She worked at O & O Drive-in, Sheraton Cavalier and at Sears. Anne was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League for over 60 years and was a devoted member of the Ukrainian Catholic community. She travelled from Vancouver to Thunder Bay, Hawaii, Arizona and Alaska. Just before Anne turned 90 she moved to Calgary to be close to her daughters where she then lived in Westview Manor and then at Father Lacombe Nursing Home. She was a loving mother to her surviving children, Gene (Elaine) Stakiw, Bill (Irene) Stakiw, Pat (John) Siroishka, Gary (Gail) Stakiw, Yvonne (†Vic 2013) Philippot and Gail (Ron) Wheatley. Baba to 16 grandchildren and Great-Baba to 22 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters Helga (John) Burdeniuk and Pauline (Steve) Podaima, sisters-in-law Rosaline (Nestor) Pidperyhora and Margaret (Bill) Pidperyhora and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Walter, and infant children Leo and Marian, her parents Michael and Eudophia Pidperyhora and her brothers Harry (Victoria), Matt (Julia), Meeron (Helen), Bill, Nester, Jacob and Russell Pidperyhora and her sisters Mary (Hugo) Walter and Victoria (Dan) Shalley.
