Brett David Boechler
February 13, 1986 - June 30, 2013
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Brett, peaceful and pain-free, at home in his family's arms, on Sunday, June 30, 2013. In our profound heartache, we remember that God created him out of pure love, granted him to us for a short while to enrich our lives, with the ultimate purpose of having Brett return to Him in everlasting love. He will be forever remembered with a smile and a tear by his parents, Mark and Kathy; his brothers, Derek (Rhea) and Evan, and his fiancée, Brittany Houk. He is predeceased by his grandmother, Marie Muench (Phil); grandfather, Ben Boechler (Joyce); and aunt, Michele Muench (Doug). Born, raised, and educated in Saskatoon, Brett was well-known for his colourful personality and generous heart. He was an outstanding athlete and avid outdoorsman, but it was his desire and ability to give and to share that made him exceptional. He didn't just excel at basketball, he coached. It wasn't enough that he was a skilled fisherman (usually out-fishing everyone around him), he taught people how to fish. And though he was a fine musician, he felt the need to share that gift by playing at school masses and participating in musical productions at Holy Cross High School, graduating in 2004. It was his goal to become a teacher, and in spite of his debilitating illness and treatments, he continued his studies (working toward a combined Kinesiology/Education degree) and received his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (with Great Distinction) from the University of Saskatchewan two weeks before his passing. He would have been a wonderful teacher, and already has been. We have learned many things from Brett, but mostly how to live – to have purpose, to share, to give. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5, 2013 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, (1902 Munroe Ave. S., Saskatoon, SK) with Rev. Father Emile April as the celebrant. Following lunch, Rite of Committal will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery - Catholic Section. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to David Schurr – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306-978-5200),
