Diane RAE

RAE, Diane Elizabeth
1968 - 2013
Diane Elizabeth Rae passed away after a battle with breast cancer. Born in Saskatoon, Diane was the youngest child of Larry and Elizabeth Burgess. She graduated from Walter Murray Collegiate and spent her teenage summers working at Camp Wakonda. It was there, at age 14, that she met Todd Rae, her best friend, soul mate and the love of her life. Todd and Diane married on November 7th, 1984 and after a few years moving to different cities in Canada, they settled down in Vancouver, BC. Incredible son Matthew Rae was born in 1994 and beautiful daughter Brooklyn was born in 1998. Both Todd and Diane worked very hard during their time in Vancouver but they did enjoy time with their kids and with the many friends they made while living there. Favourite activities were camping in the trailer where Diane felt she could really escape the rat race and just enjoy being with Todd and the kids and with important friends like Gayle Corah. In 2007 Diane and Todd made the decision to move back to Saskatoon to be closer to family. In June 2009 she started working at her favourite ever workplace, RBC Lenore Drive. Diane and Todd reconnected with old friends including the Renwicks and enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with Diane's parents and her sisters Susan, Jen, and her brother Peter, and Todd's mom Donna and his sister Lianne. In June 2010 Diane was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive form of breast cancer and she started treatment immediately at the Saskatoon Cancer Clinic. Diane deeply appreciated the care she received there from Dr. Haider, nurses Megan, Lorna, Dena, Dr. El-Guyed, as well as the incredible counseling care from Karen, Dave and Jacquie. It was also at the clinic where she met her BCF's, a ground of survivors who supported Diane unconditionally and who brightened many a challenging day. The support and love that the whole family received from lifelong friends Gwen and Bryan Renwick was and is an incredible gift. Diane was a positive, realistic but determined fighter, and she fought for time to spend with Todd and her kids. She managed to make it to every Tommy Douglas Football Game except one during the 3 years her son played on the 0 line, and also attended Brooklyn's band concerts, cheerleading, and basketball and volleyball games. She also loved to visit Auntie Lianne's acreage with Brooklyn and spent hours watching Brooklyn and Lianne ride their horses. As a family they were able to visit Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and they went to San Diego with sister Susan and spent time as a family enjoying the ocean and the beach. She was also able to have a special week in BC with her siblings and the seals. In June of 2012, she was able to celebrate the graduation of Matt from high school and the graduation of Brooklyn from Grade 8. She said it was the best week of her life and to top off that summer she was able to enjoy Matt's entrance into Engineering at the U of S and Brooklyn's starting of high school. Diane was predeceased by her father in law Brian, her awesome brother in law Cam, and Angel niece Elan Burgess. She will be remembered by her love Todd Rae, Matt and Brooklyn, her parents Larry and Elizabeth, mother in law Donna, Susan (Doug) and nephews Kevin and Justin, Jennifer (Russ) and nephew Michael, Peter (Candace) and nephew Ben, Lianne Rae, niece Eastlynd Rae, Gayle Corah (Travis) and her girls, Gwen and Bryan Renwich and her honourary niece and nephew Jessa and Zach. A celebration of Diane's life will be held at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 3rd Ave. N., Saskatoon, on Sunday, April 14th, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Diane asked for everyone to dress comfortably and to bring with them their memories with Diane in writing, to share with Matthew and Brooklyn. The memories can be emailed to todd.rae@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saskatoon Cancer Centre or the Palliative Care Ward at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon. Arrangements entrusted to Derryl Hildebrandt, Park Funeral Chapel, 306.244.2103.
