OLSON, Earle Ellys
May 20, 1926 – March 10, 2013
Earle Olson, beloved husband of Eileen Olson of Edmonton AB and formerly of Shawnigan Lake BC, and Saskatoon, SK, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the age of 86 years. Earle was born and raised in Saskatoon, SK. He was the seventh of eight children. He began work with the CNR at age 16 and at 17 enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy. After the war he returned to work at the CNR where he was employed for 38 years. In 1950 he married the love of his life, Eileen Coates. Together they raised their four children, Kathy, Ken, Karen and Ellen. Earle's family was the main focus of his life, along with a love of gardening, electronics, sports and travel. His family benefitted from all these passions. Earle retired from the CNR in 1981 and started a new career in the burgeoning market of Satellite Dish Technology. In 1985 they relocated to their dream home in Shawnigan Lake, BC where they enjoyed 18 years of Vancouver Island adventures. When Eileen began to show signs of Alzheimer's disease, they decided to relocate once again to Edmonton to have some help and support from the family. For the past 11 years, Earle has been Eileen's primary caregiver and eventually had help from four great caregivers that have become part of the family. Earle was always an eternal optimist with an infinite enthusiasm for life and a zest for lifetime learning. Throughout his life, everyone who met Earle was impressed by his youthful energy. Even in his later years, he was active in many sports. His whole family will miss his unconditional love and friendship. Earle is predeceased by his parents Anton and Vada Olson; his brothers Lloyd and Carol Olson; and his sisters Almira Dill, Audrey Gibson, and Eileen Parnett. Earle is survived by his wife Eileen and children; Kathleen and Ed Jackson, Ken and Karen Olson, Karen Olson and Kevin Maloney, Ellen and Brent Henderson; his grandchildren Jennifer and Finn Borchgrevink, Graham Olson, Chris Jackson, Candace and John Schneider, Tyler Maloney, and Jay Maloney; two great grandchildren Una Borchgrevink and Lena Schneider.
