Dr. Gale Thomas Downey
Dr. Gale Downey passed away on November 11, 2012 at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen, Texas. He was predeceased by his parents Clarence and Verna Downey. He is survived by his wife Beverley, son Gale Trenton (Dr. Clarissa) and greatly adored grandson Gryphon. He is also survived by his brother Denis (nephew Alex and niece Tanya) of Brownsville, Texas , his sister Alanna Radu (Jerry) and nephew Christopher of Calgary, Alberta.
Gale was born in Saskatoon where he enjoyed competitive speed skating as a young man under his father's instruction. While attending the University of Saskatchewan he played Huskie basketball and football .Gale graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a B.A., B.Ed and finally an M.D . in 1969. He interned at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal and then went on to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester where he completed a residency in Neurology in 1973. Gale practiced neurology in Harlingen, Texas until 2003 after which he continued to do Locums Tenems in various states until shortly before his death.
Gale's love of sports, in particular basketball, tennis and golf, gave him great pleasure throughout his lifetime.
His family will hold a reception in Saskatoon in the spring of 2013 at which time we hope to see many family and friends.
