Leah Marie Seaman
Our mother and grandmother, Leah Marie Seaman of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully on November 5, 2012 at the age of 86. Leah was born and raised in Pugwash, Nova Scotia and later moved to Windsor, Ontario, where she worked for Birks Jewellers after high school. In 1950, she married Doug Seaman from Oxford, Nova Scotia and began her role as wife and mother while Doug's career with Scotiabank took them across Canada, including Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Nipawin and Winnipeg.
Leah was a skilled seamstress, and enjoyed painting and reading. A dedicated animal lover, her home had many pets, including cats, budgies, reptiles and almost always one or more dogs. In her early years, she developed a passion for riding horses and a life-long interest in anything involving horses, horse shows, thoroughbred racing and rodeo. During the years raising children in Nipawin and Winnipeg, her home was always open and filled with young people, not to mention a few rock bands and a lot of joyful noise.
Leah will be sadly missed. She leaves to mourn her daughter Patricia Avery; granddaughter Priscilla Avery; son Nowell Seaman and daughter-in-law Sandra Blevins, grandchildren Melody, Ben, Aaron, Andrew and Jonathan Seaman; all of Saskatoon, SK. She was predeceased by her husband, Lorimer Douglas (Doug) Seaman, David Douglas Seaman (son), Louise Lyall (sister) and her parents, William Mitchell and Harriett Mitchell (nee Smith).
The family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Andrew Harrington for providing exceptional care to Mom, and to the staff of Saskatoon Convalescent Home for your kindness and caring for our Mom during her stay.
A memorial gathering in celebration of Leah's life will be held at the Saskatoon City Hospital chapel on Monday, Nov 12, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements in care of MARTENS WARMAN FUNERAL HOME 934-4888. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leah's memory to Saskatoon SPCA, 5028 Clarence Avenue, Saskatoon, SK S7T 1A7.
