Lyle Penrod
Lyle's family is saddened to announce his passing on January 21, 2014 at Extendicare Preston. Following his wishes, a private family service will be held at a later time. For those so wishing memorial donations in Lyle's name may be made to Extenicare Preston, in lieu of flowers. Lyle is survived by his loving wife Rita of 56 years; his sons, Wes and Darryl (Lynn). Also surviving him are his sisters Thelma Woiden (Leonard, deceased) and Margie Woiden (Walter). He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Niki; parents, Issac and Lola Penrod; brothers: Russ, Harold and Vernon; and sisters: Milly and Arlene. Lyle was born in Young, SK in 1937 and moved to Saskatoon at a young age. He held various jobs, he served with the Saskatoon Police for 8 years and S.G.I. Lyle moved to Cherry Insurance, where he enjoyed his years there, working for his clients and with his many colleagues. Lyle retired form Cherry Insurance a job which he loved very much. Lyle believed in his community, he was instrumental in starting the Westgate Ball & Hockey Association, and coached a team to a Provincial Championship. Lyle was a self taught handyman and loved carpentry. He used these skills to help many neighbours and friends build garages and. fences. Through out the years Lyle loved spending time as a member of the Elks Club, playing horseshoes and shooting pool. He also enjoyed bowling, dancing and bingo. Lyle was known to be very particular about keeping his cars clean & shiny, a trait he passed on to his sons. Family also held a very special place with Lyle; he took his family on many trips to Vegas, Disneyland and many camping adventures. Friends were also important to him and summers spent in their camper at the lake where they shared good times and laughs with many friends and his little buddy John are fondly remembered. Lyle leaves a legacy of honesty, hard work, courage and generosity, principles which he instilled in his sons. His contagious laugh and jokes will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Lyle's family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at St. Paul's Hospital, City Hospital for all their assistance. A special thanks to Extendicare Preston and the excellent staff.
