ORRISS, Violet Millicent
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our precious Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma, Violet Millicent Orriss. She left this earthly life on November 16, 2012 at the age 89 to join her beloved husband of 54 years, Clifford. Mom was an only child born to Ruby and George Brown on October 24, 1923 in Brighton, England. On December 20, 1941 Mom married her "handsome Canadian soldier". Without much notice, she set sail for Canada on the "Nea Hellas" on March 1, 1945 along with several hundred other warbrides. After 12 days at sea, they docked in Halifax at Pier 21 only to have a long train ride to arrive at her destination. A few months later Dad was able to join Mom and together they settled in Yorkton where their first daughter, Carson was born. There was a strong yearning to return to England which they did on March 1, 1947. After almost 2 years, they returned to Canada making Elrose their new home where they remained for 41 years forging many life-long friendships and treasured memories. While in Elrose their second daughter, Gail and their son, Cliff were born. After retiring from her job as Lab and XRay Technician at the Elrose Union Hospital followed by her job at the doctor's office, Mom and Dad took up roots moving into Saskatoon where they made McClure Place their new home. Dad was able to share 6 wonderful years with Mom in their condo. When he died in 1995, Mom continued to maintain her independence and enjoying her life at McClure Place. Throughout the years, Mom took part in various activities. In her younger days, Mom loved bonspieling with her curling friends. She enjoyed a game of golf at Aquadeo Beach where Mom and Dad had a cabin for a number of years. Mom was a part of numerous drama productions. She supported the Saskatchewan Warbrides Association attending the yearly reunions. Mom was extremely proud to be awarded her Lifetime Legion membership. Our Mom was a kind, gracious person - always a lady right up to the time of her passing. Her family meant everything to her. She is loving remembered by her children Carson (Al) Barber, Gail (Lloyd) Borschneck and Cliff (Bev) Orriss; her grandchildren Shane (Kristi) Barber, Mitchel (Melanie) Barber, Vanessa Goodwin (Nick Hartle), Kara (Steve) Lloyd, Jennifer (Ryan) Razzo, Jeff Orriss and Kelly Orriss; and her precious great grandchildren Olivia, Colton, Makenna, Brooke, Grady, Grayson, Hayden, Emma ,Evey, Teagan, and Kail. The Family would like to THANK Dr. Sean Classen, Dr. Ken Stakiw, the Medical Staff on the 6th floor, the Palliative Care Team for the compassionate care shown to Mom during her final days in the hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Palliative Care Unit of St. Paul's Hospital or to a charity of your choice in Mom's Memory. Honouring Mom's wishes, there will be no Funeral. The Family will have a private service officiated by Rev. Ron McConnell of McClure United Church. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
