William FEADER

FEADER, William (Bill) George
William (Bill) George Feader passed away at Veterans Village in Saskatoon, Sk. on November 30, 2012 at the age of 94. Bill was born in Moosomin on May 4, 1918, the seventh of nine children born to Myles and Grace Feader. At the age of ten, Bill moved with his family to Craik where he met his future wife, Rhoda White. After graduating from high school, Bill attended Teachers College in Moose Jaw, graduating in 1940. Bill taught for a year in Keeler, Sk. and then in 1941 enlisted in the army. He and Rhoda were married in September 1941 in Craik and had just a few bittersweet months together before Bill was shipped overseas in 1942. Rhoda moved to Toronto to await his return. Bill served in France, Belgium and the Netherlands, returning to Canada in September 1945. Bill and Rhoda spent a year in Toronto after his return, and then moved to Saskatoon when Bill accepted a job there. In 1951 Bill began what was to be a 34 year association with the University of Saskatchewan, firstly as the head of the Student Placement Office on campus, then as a counsellor with the Student Counselling Department, and lastly as the U of S International Student Advisor and the CIDA coordinator for Saskatchewan. During these years, while working full time, Bill took classes at the university earning his Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1965 and his Bachelor of Psychology degree in 1975. Upon Bill's retirement in 1985, he and Rhoda began a life long love affair with Hawaii. They spent a month there every year and began planning next year's trip the day after they got home. For the rest of his life, Bill wore only Hawaiian shirts and would talk to everyone about how much he loved going to Hawaii. In 2007 when Bill's emphysema put an end to travel, he was heartbroken. With the help of Home Care and Saskatoon Home Support, Bill was able to remain in his own home until 2011, at which time he moved to Veterans Village at the Sherbrooke Community Centre. There are not enough words to express our thanks for the incredible care the staff at Veterans Village gave to Bill. He was treated with love, respect and tender kindness throughout his stay there. Bill was predeceased by his wife Rhoda, and is survived by his daughter Rhonda Hercus (Jim), his grandchildren David (Brenda), Suzanne (Kris), Peter (Anca), Dominic and Philip (Tessa), his great- grandchildren William, Charles, Julie and Luke, his brother in law Alex White and his nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations honouring Bill's memory may be made to the Sherbrooke Community Centre Foundation, 401 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon, Sk., S7H 2E7. The Celebration of Bill's life will be held on Saturday, December 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th St., first right past Briargate Road). Online condolences may be sent from www.hillcrestmemorial.ca Arrangements entrusted to Megan Kasper.
